The pedestrian tunnels connecting Eastman Quad, Hoyt Hall, Bausch & Lomb Hall, and Dewey Hall, a key indoor route between buildings, will reopen in two phases starting next week. These sections have been closed since the summer for structural repairs.
Reopening schedule
- Monday, November 2: The tunnel beneath Eastman Quad reopens, along with the connections to Hoyt Hall and Bausch & Lomb Hall.
- Friday, November 13: The connection to Dewey Hall reopens, completing the reopening.
The pedestrian tunnel sits directly above a separate utility tunnel that carries heating and other services across campus. Over the summer, crews rebuilt the utility corridor running from Lattimore and Morey to the Dewey mechanical space. Because most of the work took place below the walkway, the pedestrian tunnel will look largely as it did before, apart from a resurfaced floor.
The stretch of wall students traditionally use for artwork, commentary, and club event promotion will reopen with the tunnel.
Some further utility work in the area is planned for next year. The goal is to schedule that work during the summer months to minimize disruption during the academic year.
Thank you for your patience while Facilities and Services completed this work.
