This procedure provides minimum guidance to ensure that Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) is being properly identified and managed in accordance with applicable regulations to provide a safe environment for all University students, staff, visitors, patients and contractors.

The purpose of these guidelines is to afford smooth, safe traffic flow through corridors, to assure compliance with government regulations for corridor widths in schools (business occupancies) and hospitals, and to reduce the unsightliness resulting from clutter in the corridors, while at the same time permitting use of excess corridor space.

This procedure establishes guidance on how to comply with the New York State Fire Code section 403.12.3 and 3106.4.3 for crowd managers. All events in indoor assembly occupancies serving over 500 people or more than 1000 people outdoors will must adhere to this procedure. The crowd manager is responsible for keeping diligent watch for fires and assist in the evacuation of the room/space/tent during emergencies.

The University of Rochester’s Emergency Action Plan describes the responsibilities and actions taken to protect employees in the event of an emergency or disaster situation. The plan aims to protect employees from severe injury, property loss, or loss of life in the event of a major incident. A major incident may include, but is not limited to, the following: fire, infrastructure failure, hazardous material spill, bomb threat, severe weather, and violence in the workplace.

This policy establishes guidelines for the proper placement, sizing, and type of portablefire extinguisher to be used in the different hazard areas in all University of Rochesterbuildings.

These guidelines establish requirements for mattresses, hanging fabrics, curtains or drapes, and upholstered furniture used or installed at all University of Rochester properties. Warming blankets and air mattresses are not part of this standard because of their small fire load. This standard is not applicable to venetian or wood blinds.

With the growing popularity of food trucks there is concern with their fire safety. These guidelines have been derived from the 2018 International Fire Code and National Fire Protection Association 96 – Appendix B (2017 edition) to assist in preparing for a fire safety inspection.
