Specific fire safety precautions and guidelines for holiday and seasonal decorations, including allowed locations and allowed decorations, fire hazards, trees, and electric lighting.

These guidelines establish requirements for mattresses, hanging fabrics, curtains or drapes, and upholstered furniture used or installed at all University of Rochester properties. Warming blankets and air mattresses are not part of this standard because of their small fire load. This standard is not applicable to venetian or wood blinds.

Requirements for various University, department, or student group events where food is served including department events, catered events, temporary or baked goods events, events serving pizza, and events serving alcohol.

Approval is required from the University Sanitarian's office for all events utilizing a food truck to serve food. Please fill out the form below and deliver your processing fee to the Sanitarian's office at least 14 work days prior to your event.

This policy establishes a system of controls within the University of Rochester that allow work involving possible sources of ignition to be carried out safely in accordance with NYS Fire Code Chapter 35, OSHA laws, and good practices. This policy requires all employees and contractors to obtain a hot work permit before performing work which includes, but is not limited to, welding, brazing, soldering, torch cutting, chipping, grinding and any other task that generates sparks or heat.
