Benefits and cost savings

Reduce fuel expenses, vehicle wear and tear, and parking costs by sharing your commute. Carpooling reduces emissions per person, and helps ease congestion on campus.

The University supports carpooling for employees who commute with two or more people in one vehicle. To participate, all carpool members must have a registered vehicle and work similar hours. In addition to environmental benefits, carpooling can significantly reduce parking costs.

Save money with lower permit rates:

2-person carpool: Pay 50% of the regular permit rate
3-person carpool: Pay 25% of the regular permit rate
4-person carpool: No charge for a permit

How to apply

All carpool participants must visit the Parking Office together to apply and register for a carpool.
Each participant must register their own vehicle.
Students living in Whipple Park, Goler House, or University Park will be assigned permits associated with their housing. They will need to visit the Goler Parking Office once they have signed their lease if they have a vehicle.
All carpool participants must have active employee or active student status. Any other status will terminate the carpool permit.

Where carpool permits are valid

Carpool permits are valid for the lot listed on the permit. Refer to the parking guidelines to find out where parking is permitted after hours, on weekends, and on University holidays.

How carpool permits work

Each carpool group is issued one shared hangtag permit. The permit reflects the assigned parking lot. If carpool members work on different campuses, arrangements can be made to park in the lot closest to the worksite.

If a carpool group is disbanded

If a carpool is disbanded or a participant leaves the group, Transportation and Logistics must be notified. The shared permit must be returned, and a new permit will be issued for an available lot.

The group must have a status of active employee or active student. All other status will terminate the carpool permit.
