This policy establishes a system of controls within the University of Rochester that allow work involving possible sources of ignition to be carried out safely in accordance with NYS Fire Code Chapter 35, OSHA laws, and good practices. This policy requires all employees and contractors to obtain a hot work permit before performing work which includes, but is not limited to, welding, brazing, soldering, torch cutting, chipping, grinding and any other task that generates sparks or heat.

The University recognizes the impact that indoor air quality may have in the workplace. In an effort to provide the University Community with acceptable indoor air quality, Environmental Health and Safety has developed an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Program to establish procedures for evaluating IAQ and provide information to the University Community.

This procedure evaluates the loss of a life safety feature to help maintain a safe environment for all patients, visitors and staff during the course of construction or renovation or when a life safety code deficiency is identified and cannot be immediately corrected. (LS.01.02.01 EP1)
